philosophy

Change Your Frame's philosophy can be best seen and understood through the metaphor of a kaleidoscope:

From the Greek Root of kaleidoscope
Kalos = beautiful
Eidos = shape/form
Scopes = watcher

relate
A kaleidoscope invites us to actively play our way into learning a myriad of concepts and skills. Similarly, play engages the experiential side of our brains: it introduces us to multiple contexts and helps us develop and practice “situated learning.” Applied to traditional dialogue-centered teaching strategies, smart play offers a rich and effective approach to learning concepts and mastering skills.

create
When we don’t like an image produced by a kaleidoscope, we can simply rotate it to produce a new image. Similarly, we each possess the power and potential to change our own frames: to see others and ourselves in an entirely new way. We create change.

communicate
Part of the joy of the kaleidoscope is its promise that there is no end to the unique images we can see; we initiate the somersaults of colored objects precisely because we don’t want to stare at the same exact image forever. Like a kaleidoscope, relationships need positive conflict to grow and become more magnificent. After all, conflict is dynamic. And if we engage in conflict thoughtfully, it has the potential to inspire innovation, encourage creative problem-solving and build richer relationships.

collaborate
The kaleidoscope takes fragmented pieces of glass and unifies them without sacrificing the uniqueness of a single piece of glass. A healthy, vibrant and resilient community unites individuals without sacrificing the identity of a single one of its members.
